Northwoods Software Releases Next Generation Java Diagramming Component
Northwoods Software Announces New 4.1 Release of its JGO Library of
Diagramming Controls
NASHUA, NH.- June 25, 2002, Northwoods Software announced today that
it is releasing the next generation of its visualization and diagramming
component for Java, JGo version 4.1. JGo 4.1, builds on the company's
current position in the Java market providing the most cost effective
and full-featured diagramming component in the industry.
The most notable of the new features is the persistence of JGo documents
using SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) formatted XML. SVG, a soon-to-be
available XML foundation for all modern web applications provides Northwoods
customers with the most current technology to create rich, scalable, distributed
applications.
JGo's new capabilities and enhanced functionality include: support for
graphs within graphs; text wrapping; Bezier curve strokes, links and polygons;
automatic routing of orthogonal links to avoid nodes; extensive and customizable
user-input features; new example classes and applications; and dozens
of other new features.
Bill Sharar, Senior Software Engineer from ASG, a software and professional
services company and a JGo 4.1 beta tester had this to say about his experience
with the new tool: "I am happy to say that JGo has been a pleasure
to use from the very beginning." With a CAD programming background,
Sharar would have been able to write a diagramming component in-house.
However, by using JGo, he saved his company tens of thousands of dollars
in development costs, ongoing maintenance headaches and additional engineering
resources. Mr. Sharar states, "JGo's object-oriented design made
it simple to incorporate the component into my application." Sharar
continues, "In addition, JGo classes are really easy to extend. My
experience with JGo has been both productive and enjoyable."
Another beta tester, Marco Koch from, SOLONDE (Solutions on Demand),
a large ISV in Germany tested JGo 4.1 and is now using the component inside
one of their primary development projects. According to Marco, "
The new SVG support and the graphical features in JGo 4.1 are a big step
forward for the company's Java offering." Mr. Koch continues, "The
SVG support is a huge time saving feature since it makes it redundant
to develop complex methods for reading and generating XML for your graph
storage." He states, "We really like the new graphical features,
the updated manuals and demo applications are incredibly useful."
According to Walter Van Roggen, Director of Engineering at Northwoods,
"Not only are we committed to building the very best set of multi-platform
diagramming and visualization controls in the industry, we are equally
committed to providing the very best in support and service to our customers."
To this end, Northwoods has released, just within the past three months,
two major releases of its control, on two different platforms; GoDiagram for .NET
for Microsoft's .NET framework and now JGo 4.1 for Java. Van Roggen states,
"Northwoods Software has been providing diagramming components to
developers for over five years with thousands of satisfied users."
